Brahmasri Kollegal Subramanyam started writing the Sankara Vijayam in April 2002 and completed by January 2003.

The incidents in the 32-Year life span of Sri Adi Sankaracharya have been vividly brought out in simple and chaste Sanskrit by Kollegal Subramanyam in the 32 kritis composed in 32 Melakarta Raagas starting with the Mayamaalavagowla Raagam and progressing alternatively into prati madhyama and suddha madhyama ragas.   Pallavi of all the kritis are a prostration to the great guru Adi Sankaracharaya with the endings Vanditaaya – Sevithaaya – Thoshitaaya – Poojithaaya used twice for sets of 4 kritis each.

The first four kritis mainly bring out his initiation into brahmacharya and blooming of the “kanakadhaara stotram” then into sanyasa and capture of Narmada into his “kamandula”, meeting his Guru Sri Govinda Bhagavatpada and initiation into poorna sanyasa (Vanditaaya).

The second set of four kritis describe his visit to Kashi and badrinath and blooming of “maneesha panchakam” and “bhaja Govindam” and darshan of the revered Vyasa Maharshi who bestowed upon him an added life span of 16 more years to serve mankind (sevithaaya).

The third set of four kritis bring out his meeting with Kumarila Bhattu, Mandana Mishra and the famous argument-counter argument between Sankaracharaya and Mandana Mishra (Thoshitaaya)

The fourth set of four kritis describe his victory over Mandana Mishra and subsequent   transmigration into the body of a king to win an argument with his wife Bharati (Poojithaaya).

The fifth set of four kritis describe the blooming of “Lakshmi Narasimha Karaavalamba” stotram, surrender of Bharati, wife of Mandana Mishra and his sanyasa deeksha. Sankaracharya’s visit to Sringeri down south and the episode of Snake facilitating its sworn enemy, the frog to give birth has been very vividly brought out in the Shubhapantuvaraali kriti (Vanditaaya).

The sixth set of four kritis  describe the setting up of the first Adi Peetham Dakshinaamnaaya Sringeri Sri Saarada peetham, initiation of Hastaamalaka into his disciples’ fold and visit to dreaded Kanchi and meeting Kamakshi in her fierce form (Sevithaaya)

The seventh set of four kritis describe installation of the Sri Chakra and getting Kamakshi into her original calm posture, Giri turning into  one of the four principal disciples for his unstinting faith in the Guru with the deeksha name Thotakaachaarya for chanting the Thotakaashtakam(Thoshitaaya).

The eighth set of four kritis describe the performing of last rites of his mother, touring all over India on foot propagating veda-dharma-bhakti paths of devotion, installing the Shanmathas i.e. saiva-vaishnava-saaktheya-sowra-gaanapathya-koumaara, setting up of the other three peethams i.e. paschimaamnaaya Dwaaraka Kaalika peetham, Uttaraamnaaya Badarikaashrama Jyothi peetham, Poorvaamnaaya Puri Jagannadha Govardhana peetham and appointing his four principal disciples as heads of the four peethams. Visiting Kashmir and occupying the prestigious and coveted seat of Sarada Devi Peetham “Sarvagnya Peetham” which was never ever dreamt for anyone from down south, by easily winning over the arguments of gurus from other faiths and his final journey to Kailasa from Kedar along with Dattatreya swamy and having Darshan of Siva and Shakti and becoming one with them (Poojithaaya).
